5. Beyond purpose, trusting desire
Maybe you've done years of leading...
And you're just a bit tired of having to think about so many people's needs all the time,
And having to carry so much responsibility for everything,
And having to be diplomatic with everyone all day every day.
Maybe...
There are days when you feel like a horse in harness but you'd really like to run free.
Maybe...
You'd like to make on your own decisions for a change, simple, quick, and sure—without having to juggle staff moods, Board committees, or funder requirements.
Maybe...
You've been thinking about something you'd love to do that you haven't yet told a single soul.
Maybe you'd just like to have...
More of you in your life.
And maybe it's not that you regret being dedicated to your mission or being a disciplined leader. But that's been your life for a long time and something in you is restless and you're wondering...
What if I decided to listen even deeper into my heart?
What if I followed my desire so I could see what might happen?
And what if my desire didn't lead me astray down some path of selfishness?
What if it got me into doing new things in the world, good things, maybe even better things than anything I've done so far?
What if I discovered that I could trust that what my heart wants is not only good for me but for everyone around me?
And maybe you'd decide to follow your desire just for...
One hour a day, or
One day a week.
Or maybe you'd decide...
You want to follow it full time,
And you start looking at ways to conjure up the funding to make that possible.
Which means maybe...
You'd make a new position for yourself at your current organization.
Or you'd gather a new team of peers who get you and who you love working with and together you'll create a new venture.
Or you'd set off on your own and be independent in what you do.
And maybe you can begin to imagine...
Getting paid for just being you.
Or maybe you don't quite believe that anything like this could happen, but you'd like to believe.
And maybe you're ready, or just about ready, to talk about the possibility of making something new come true for yourself.
If so, I'm up for it. I'm really up for it.
